Snowy

O.K. my thoughts on why Palin quit.

Comments

If Palin walks away from everything quietly, I would be extremely surprised- She appears to seek out attention, trying to stretch her 15 minutes of fame into a career...if it is not a political stage, it may be an entertainment one..

I think Sarah has just gotten started...
Well, I don't even think the woman is particularly good looking. She has a certain goofiness about her appearance that precludes me attaining any sort of sexual arousal about her.

And I don't think we've heard the last of her. I think she's either quitting pre-emptively before some now-unknown scandal breaks involving her or that she's planning some other sort of political move

She also has a long track record of quitting her endeavors and has shown she has the attention span of a hummingbird.

But I think she's pretty well committed political suicide by this move.
She made it fairly clear that she planned on running for office in 2012, and politicians who are in over their heads never acknowledge that fact, so no, I don't think she's getting out of politics. Still, resigning your office three years ahead of the election to give yourself time to prepare is ridiculous, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was another reason for the resignation that isn't being publicized.
[this is good]

Your compassion for her is admirable.

You have to realize that Palin has made a career of political stepping stones - directly from mayor, to governor, to run for VP candidate, to suggestions of running for President in 2012. She's no stranger whatsoever to intense criticism, and she's got a habit of playing the victim card to deflect it. This is a weakness on her part, and if her most recent reply to the Shannyn Moore issue is any indication, it's one she's no intention of discarding. I have a feeling that the next several years is going to be spent strengthening her weak points in national level politics, with regular periods of publicity boosters to keep her in the media.
I agree with Artzy Lady

I agree with you Snowy, it scares me that she may run for President but my sense is that it was more about her situation with the children. She must be burned out after all that - carrying McCain and being a woman Republican sounds exhausting. I'm also tired of sexists using her Republican status as an excuse to spout their disgusting comments. Not that I agree with her politics, she is one of my worst nightmares in that sense. Hope she's doing this for family and not for politics.

I think Sarah has just gotten started...

It will be interesting to see if this is the case. I'm just going on her performance in her resignation speech. That was not the speech of someone in control of themselves. And it came out of nowhere. I think she's had enough, but ego may triumph over common sense once she's been away for a while, and she may try again. For America's sake, and her own, I hope not.

But I think she's pretty well committed political suicide by this move

I hope so.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was another reason for the resignation that isn't being publicized.

That may well be the case.

If she is quitting to get enough training for high office then she has a hard task ahead of her.

It's laughable that she stood on the "you can't trust Washington types" as if she was going to be responsive to the Voters wishes.

She might still be aiming for the top job but if she gets Republican support it will show an extreme lack of depth in their ranks.

Your compassion for her is admirable.

Thank you.

I have a feeling that the next several years is going to be spent strengthening her weak points in national level politics, with regular periods of publicity boosters to keep her in the media.

You may well be right. She'd be a psychoanalyst's nightmare, so my humble efforts would seem to be rather futile. We shall see.

I agree with Artzy Lady

And I agree with you. ;o)

Hope she's doing this for family and not for politics.

If that is the case, then my newly found compassion will rapidly evaporate.

She might still be aiming for the top job but if she gets Republican support it will show an extreme lack of depth in their ranks.

She may still resonate with the rednecks, but I think the big end of town will be looking for someone more tuned to middle America. Good luck with that too. Like you, I haven't seen any genuine Republican contenders.

...and if she's disengaged from the office of governor, she has time to plan strategy for presedential aspirations without the burden of the press dogging her every move and decision as governor. The strategy is a little transparent. I hope I'm wrong.
I hope you're wrong too. I just don't think she's that smart. I think she'll publish her book, and then fade into obscurity.
I don't think she'd ever settle for obscurity. After a taste of the national stage, the allure of fame and recognition are hard to resist..

After a taste of the national stage, the allure of fame and recognition are hard to resist..

That is true.

You're alright, Snowy. Pleased to meet you.

Likewise, Jillie
lol, you're welcome
We should all be grateful that she hasn't sued us yet for even speculating. Her lawyer has made the statement that they are investigating legal options against Shannyn Moore, an anti-Palin Alaskan blogger, just for throwing out options. Apparently, Gov. Palin thinks she has a special exception clause to the First Amendment.

I also read that Palin's newest excuse for quitting is mounting legal bills, but I'm not saying that's the case. Don't want to be sued, you know.

But regardless of what the other reasons are for her quitting her post, her PAC is still operational. She apparently still plans to run for President.
I hope for the sake of the world that you are right Snowy, and I admire also your compassionate assessment.

She apparently still plans to run for President.

The more I look at it, the more I think she is guided by emotion, and not reason. She'll implode long before she gets to be president. I think it's happening now.

So, sue me Sarah...

I hope for the sake of the world that you are right Snowy, and I admire also your compassionate assessment.

Thanks, GOF. I stood for parliament once, and was active in politics for a number of years. One thing I learnt, and that is that while we may differ with someone's politics, exercising their rights in our democracy doesn't diminish them as a human being . Too often we forget that in this chaotic world in which we live.

You are a very kind person for feeling compassion for her. I do not share this feeling. Maybe it is because I am a single mother and struggled to attend university, work and raise my son (with no child support, thanks), whilst Mrs Palin raked in over 100k and her hubby works for an oil company making a decent salary. And she likes to shoot animals for fun. From helicopters, no less. That would put me off her no matter what.
I suspect she is ambitious enough to run for senator. I think she believes good looks and a folksy manner are enough. Others have done it on less and gotten elected. Just look at Dubya!
And look at the obsession with looks the States (and some other countries) has. Celebrities with no brains or credentials, famous for only how they look. For example, "Posh Spice" has no talent, yet thousands of women copy her and admire her. I can walk down the street here and count five women in an hour with her haircut, big oversized white sunglasses, and (idiotically as they are walking) high heeled pumps.
Just goes to show...at least half the population are idiots. And they will vote for an idiot who looks good. Call me a cynic.
I did not finish my initial point, sorry, got sidetracked. I was saying I do not feel sorry for her, and my point would be, she does not know what it is to struggle, and her daughter's situation is a product of her parents' warped ideals. And it seemed to me Mrs Palin used her baby as a marketing tool.
Remember the very expensive stroller she charged to the RNC? I believe she and her husband could afford to buy their own stroller.
I am not saying you are wrong, or naive. I respect compassion, completely. I am just saying, I feel none for her.
Maybe she will have a talk show and replace Sally Jesse Raphael...: )

Just goes to show...at least half the population are idiots.

You'll get no argument from me there. But that is the point I am trying to make. Stupidity is not blameworthy, and I believe she is stupid, and therefore shouldn't be blamed for it. By all means, do all we can to keep her out of politics where she could do untold damage in a position of real power such as POTUS, Dubya being a fine example.

But no matter what her political and/or religious beliefs, I can only empathise with the mother of a teenage single mother and also a Down's Syndrome child.

[this is good]
Excellent thoughts and opinions. I had the feeling that all the media attention was getting too much, also, and I did feel sympathy.

However, I have a feeling that if she actually makes it out of the limelight, she will miss it....it must be addicting. I am hoping we won't be seeing more of her, but I'm afraid that's too much to hope!

Seriously, though, if she runs again for any office and actually gets elected I would say the electorate would deserve what they got.
Thanks Lauri. I think she's toast so far as politics is concerned.
